We may be stuck indoors for the time being but that doesn't mean we can't broaden our horizons beyond our living room walls, because let's face it, there's only so many thousand-piece jigsaws you can do, and Netflix series you can watch. While we aren’t able to physically travel the globe at the moment, there are ways to do it virtually – and for free.
National Theatre plays
The National Theatre is streaming free full-length plays every Thursday on its YouTube channel. Each production will be available for seven days, kicking off at 7pm on Thu 2 Apr with One Man Two Guvnors starring James Corden.
Royal Opera House
You can watch full-length ballet and operas on the Royal Opera House YouTube channel and Facebook for free.
Upcoming opera performances include Acis and Galatea at 7pm on Fri 3 Apr and Così fan tutte at 7pm on Fri 10 Apr. For ballet, you can see The Metamorphosis at 7pm on Fri 17 Apr, and Peter and the Wolf streaming on demand now. If you can't tune in at those times, those performances will also be available on demand afterwards.
Showstopper! The Improvised Musical
West End production Showstopper! The Improvised Musical has had over 1,000 unique performances in London. When the theatre had to close recently due to the Government's Covid-19 advice, the cast put on their improvised show in front of an empty theatre and streamed it live on Facebook, which you can watch back.
